Team members from Johnson Jacobson Wilcox CPAs and branding/design firm one11 visited Kermit R. Booker Sr. Empowerment Elementary School to award the winner of the firm's annual art contest.

Students were asked to depict why they are proud to live in America, with the winning artwork featured on the CPA firm's annual Fourth of July card, which is sent to clients.
In addition to awarding the winning student (11-year-old Reyna Herrera) with a gift of art supplies, Johnson Jacobson Wilcox CPAs also donated $5,000 to the elementary school.

Adam Grigsby, staff accountant for Johnson Jacobson Wilcox CPAs, said the firm chooses a different school each year based on need. "The whole point is to help a school that will truly benefit from the donation, raise awareness and inspire national pride tied in with the July 4 holiday," Grigsby said. "We also like to give a basket full of art supplies to the winning student."

The CPA firm started this tradition in conjunction with its 10-year anniversary in 2005. Dr. Beverly Mathis, principal of Kermit R. Booker Sr. Empowerment Elementary School, said the school plans to use the donation toward the school's student incentive programs for reading and school attendance.
