New Law Offices in Downtown Las Vegas
This new 13,000-square-foot building houses the law offices of Raleigh, Hunt, McGarry & Drizin. Located at the corner of Garces and Casino Center Drive in downtown Las Vegas, it was funded by a $1.6 million acquisition/construction loan from Business Bank of Nevada, which also provided funds to purchase a parking lot across the street. General contractor for the project was Tal-Star Construction, architect was Klai:Juba Architects, and Colours, Inc. provided interior design services. All are local Southern Nevada firms.
J.D. Power Rates Las Vegas No. 2
For the second year in a row, Las Vegas’ homebuilding industry fared well in a customer-satisfaction survey of new-home buyers. J.D. Power and Associates marketing services corporation reported in late September that metropolitan Las Vegas ranked No. 2, following Phoenix, in overall customer satisfaction among 10 cities surveyed in its 2001 New-Home Builder Customer Satisfaction Study. Las Vegas’ homebuilding industry received an overall index score of 106, while Phoenix received 110. More than 3,800 new-home buyers in metropolitan Las Vegas evaluated 27 homebuilding companies in the marketplace. The study included feedback from new-home buyers who had lived in their homes between four and 16 months, on average. Nordstrom Building in Las Vegas
Matt Construction Company, with offices in Southern California and Las Vegas, has been named general contractor for the construction of the first Nordstrom department store in Las Vegas, located at the Fashion Show Mall. The 180,000-square-foot, three-story structure is scheduled for completion in November, 2002. The erection of the steel framework was completed in September and interior construction will begin next month. Matt Construction, established in 1991, recently completed a Nordstrom Rack store, the first off-price outlet for Nordstrom in Las Vegas. The 32,000-square-foot store is located in the Silverado Ranch shopping center at 9851 So. Eastern Ave.
AGC Announces Annual Awards
The Nevada Chapter Associated General Contractors (AGC) recently recognized six Northern Nevada contractors at the third annual PINNACLE Awards dinner in Reno. Five of the six recipients were first-time winners. The PINNACLE Awards program was established in 1999 to honor the "best of the best" in Northern Nevada contractor projects. Honored with PINNACLE awards were: Harker & Harker, Inc., Krump Construction, Inc. (2 awards) and Q & D Construction, Inc. Merit award winners were: Clark & Sullivan Contractors, Omboli Interiors, Inc., Q & D Construction and Trammell Crow Construction (2 awards). Kathie Fralick was the recipient of the AGC Silent Samaritan Award for her contributions to the community. Jim Garner received the President’s Choice Award for his innovation and leadership on energy design and management.
Edmond Town Centre Expands
Jacqueline Young, executive vice president of The Equity Group, has announced the groundbreaking of Phase II of the Edmond Town Centre, a retail center at Owens Avenue and H Street in west Las Vegas. The project is part of a $100 million development plan by inner-city redeveloper UrbanAmerica, KSJ Development and local partner Nucleus Investments. Phase I of the center, comprised of 63,000 square feet of retail space anchored by Vons Supermarket, is fully leased. Phase II, which will include 95,000 square feet of additional retail space, should be ready for occupancy in fall 2002. The Whiting Turner Contracting Company is general contractor for the project, and Winston Henderson is the architect.
Revere at Anthem’s Clubhouse Completed
Burke and Associates recently completed construction on a 23,000-square-foot clubhouse for Del Webb’s Revere at Anthem golf community in Henderson. Designed by the Dahlin Group, the two-story structure features an underground cart barn, a 3,000-square-foot golf shop, a bar and grill, dining rooms, offices and kitchen facilities. A restaurant called Buckman’s Tavern provides seating for more than 120 people, and additional banquet facilities bring the clubhouse’s total seating capacity to 299. The Revere’s first golf course, Lexington, opened in April 1999 and the second, Concord, is scheduled to be completed in 2002.
CENTRA to Develop Retail Center
CENTRA Properties has announced plans to develop a 22-acre mixed-use retail center in Henderson at Stephanie Street and Paseo Verde Parkway, just south of Interstate 215. It is a joint venture project with the landowner, Mahacamu, LLC. The center will include more than 84,000 square feet of retail space, in addition to four retail pads along Stephanie Street. Las Vegas-based Perlman Architects will serve as the project’s architect and Wright Engineers of Las Vegas will perform engineering services. Bolich and Manning will serve as general contractor. CENTRA plans to break ground in the first quarter of 2002.
