United Construction Company earned the Nevada Chapter Associated General Contractors’ (AGC) Golden Hard Hat Award recognizing the AGC member with the best overall safety record in Northern Nevada. United Construction Company earned the award because of its exemplary safety record for the year, with no time lost due to on-the-job injuries. AGC’s safety award winners are chosen based on Employers Insurance Company of Nevada workers’ compensation records correlating work hours and number of accidents. AGC members include Northern Nevada’s top general contractors, subcontractors and building professionals who employ 14,300 workers responsible for more than $300 million in payroll. Founded in 1978, United Construction has a staff of more than 90 employees with offices in Reno and Las Vegas.

Pentacore Joins Stantec

Pentacore Family of Companies, a Las Vegas firm with over 200 employees, recently signed a letter of intent to join Stantec, one of North America’s leading engineering firms, with 40 offices. The anticipated closing date is October 30. Pentacore provides professional services in civil engineering, construction administration, land planning and land surveying. Its list of clients includes state and local public agencies and most major private developers in Southern Nevada. Stantec has completed several major projects in Northern Nevada, including the new entrance to Harrah’s Casino, the Geiger Road/Toll Road realignment and the award-winning Pyramid Lake High School.

Clark & Sullivan Awarded $24 Million Contract

Clark & Sullivan Constructors has been awarded the construction contract for the Henderson Multigenerational Aquatic Complex and the Henderson Promenade and Special Events Plaza at 250 N. Green Valley Pkwy. The two-level, 84,075-square-foot aquatic complex will include a 12,113-square-foot gymnasium, elevated jogging track, classrooms, computer lab, climbing wall, dance, fitness and aerobics rooms, and an indoor lap pool with a training pool and spa. The complex is highlighted by an activity pool and a 50-meter competitive pool with diving area, which will be used by Clark County School District swim teams. The Promenade and Special Events Plaza will be the new home for Shakespeare in the Park and the site of other performances and concerts. The 40,000-square-foot Promenade will feature 3,000 covered fixed seats and space for up to 7,500 turf seats.

Pacific West Breaks Ground on Three Projects

Pacific West Builders has broken ground in downtown Reno for a 152-unit, five-story development that will provide affordable housing for seniors. CitiVista will offer seniors a community center, fitness center, library and game room, as well as outdoor recreation areas and gardens. The bond and tax credit project received financing from the city of Reno, ctate of Nevada, Commercial Mortgage and Fannie Mae. In Sparks, Pacific West is building The Villas at D’Andrea, a 256-unit luxury golf course multifamily project. The hillside location overlooking the D’Andrea golf course features an Italian village theme. The villas project includes a 24-hour fitness spa and salon, café, lounge, business center, concierge services and European-style pool. Portofino, located in Henderson, is a 206-unit project designed to meet the needs of seniors on fixed incomes. The development features elevators, community center, pool spa, salon, fitness center, residents garden and library.

RTC Selects Architects for Monorail Stations

The Clark County Regional Transportation Commission and county commissioners have awarded a contract for the preliminary architectural design of downtown Las Vegas monorail stations to C&B Nevada, Inc. and Gensler of Nevada, Inc. The designs will be part of the preliminary engineering phase of the Fixed Guideway project, which will extend the mass transit system from the Sahara Hotel/Casino to the downtown area. The seven proposed stations along the route to downtown will be designed to minimize the right-of-way impact, enhance pedestrian circulation and interact with the existing bus system. The Sahara station is scheduled for completion in 2004, and the downtown corridor stations from 2005 to 2007.
