Building Nevada for 22 Years

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. recently strengthened its presence in the Southern Nevada building market with the expansion of its Henderson office. McCarthy is the seventeenth largest building company in the U.S. and the fifth largest in the Southwest region. With 138 years of experience, it is the nation's oldest privately-held construction firm. "McCarthy has been building Southern Nevada for more than 22 years," said Bo Calbert, president of McCarthy’s Southwest Division, headquartered in Phoenix, Ariz. "We realized, however, that in order to expand upon our commitment to our local clientele and increase our market share in Nevada, it was time for McCarthy expand its local services in the Las Vegas Valley."

Calbert continued, "I am pleased to announce we have moved John Frye, 22-year McCarthy veteran, to Southern Nevada to lead our effort. McCarthy is well known for the services we provide to our clients. By being flexible in our approach and developing genuine relationships, we are able to consistently deliver and exceed expectations." With its new office and appointment of experienced executives, McCarthy is expanding upon its current market share.

McCarthy’s services stretch into a variety of industries, including: entertainment, gaming/hospitality, retail, educational, healthcare, laboratory, biotechnical, microelectronic. It has constructed industrial facilities, office buildings, parking structures, tenant interiors, mixed-use projects, multifamily residential projects, water and wastewater treatment facilities and prisons.

McCarthy has constructed more than 220,000 parking spaces nationwide, making it one of the leading builders of parking structures. Builder of the world’s largest parking structure - Disney’s "Mickey & Friends Parking Garage" in Anaheim, Calif. - McCarthy’s Southern Nevada parking projects include Showcase Parking Garage and Green Valley Town Center Parking Garage. Also known as one of the largest healthcare building companies in the United States, McCarthy is one of the preferred builders for Catholic Healthcare West, which owns and operates St. Rose Dominican Hospital. McCarthy is also a select bidder for Universal Healthcare Systems.

McCarthy’s list of gaming/hospitality projects in the Southwest continues to expand. It recently completed the $50 million Hyatt Tamaya in Albuquerque, N.M., and the first five-star resort in Arizona, the Phoenician Resort – a $200 million project. River Palms (Gold River) Hotel/Casino in Laughlin is a $60 million McCarthy project.

"McCarthy is known for its building capabilities," said Frye. "Our national and regional experience with various types of projects has readied us to build upon our presence in the Southern Nevada market, where the Valley’s continued growth demands an experienced builder who can handle a diverse project base."

McCarthy also enters the Southern Nevada market with proven success in redevelopment. Its recent completion of TrizecHahn Development Corporation’s mammoth Hollywood & Highland urban mixed-use destination in Southern California, including the 3,650-seat Kodak Theatre and themed retail areas, tested McCarthy’s skills and prepared it to take on projects of a similar size and scope in the Las Vegas Valley. Desert Ridge, an $80 million project consisting of high-end anchor stores and a lifestyles area in Scottsdale, Ariz., is similar to projects McCarthy is currently developing in Southern Nevada.

While McCarthy’s large-scale projects have made it a major player across the nation, its Southern Nevada office looks to build the same reputation on a local level. McCarthy recently completed American Nevada Corporation’s newest two-building addition to its Green Valley Corporate Center and it has four other large projects pending throughout the Valley.

"McCarthy has a proven track record in building both large and small projects," said Doug Abell, vice president of commercial construction for American Nevada Corporation. "We are excited to have a builder of such caliber in our market, and we look forward to continuing our professional relationship."
